GARY GRANT K7VY IS SILENT KEY NEVADA SECTION MANAGER

It is with profound sadness that I must inform you of the death this morning of Gary Grant K7VY the Section Manager of the Nevada Section. Gary had been hospitalized in the ICU for several weeks.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth, and children Nicholas and Jennifer. Gary was a member of the ARRL for more than 50 years.
He served in several capacities of the Field Organization including Official Observer, Volunteer Examiner, Official Observer Coordinator, Assistant Section Manager, and finally as the incumbent SM.
Gary was an Elmer of the highest degree. Never missing an opportunity to help someone along in their pursuit of amateur radio.
He was first licensed back in 1956 as K6QXZ and was a native of Glendale, California.
He held a First Class Radiotelephone License with Radar Endorsement and worked in Broadcast Engineering for Collins Radio in Burbank, California and in Newport Beach, California. He also did a stint with them in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

In 1962 he began working for KCRL and KRNV in Reno as a Television Engineer. He was with these stations for 30 years before going to work for the University of Nevada-Reno. He retired from UNR in 2000 after 23 years of service. He remained active at UNR as a stadium greeter at Wolf Pack football games until 2013.
Gary also was the owner of Sierra Electronics for several years. He held the call K7VYT for a number of years before replacing it with his K7VY vanity call.
He was a member of the University of Nevada Reno Radio Pack, the Quarter Century Wireless Club, and other radio groups. He was a co-founder of the RadioPack List Server. He also was a member of the Masonic Order.
Funeral services will be Monday February 9th. at 11:00 AM, Ross, Burke, and Knobel Mortuary 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno.
