The Frontier Amateur Radio Society was founded in the Moreno Family's kitchen on February 1st, 1986. The group organized because their schedules did not allow them to participate in the meetings of the Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club.
Moreno signed the membership certificates of the Chartered Members. Member Number 2 went to Robert Herrell WB5PTO (now AJ5C), who assumed the duties of Club Secretary. Member Number 3 went to Bob Buck W7IZU who served as Treasure for more than two decades.
The Frontier Amateur Radio Society flourished, becoming an ARRL Special Service Club during it's first year. FARS continues to hold SSC status to this very day. In 1990 the group was named Pacific Division Small Club of the Year.
