SNARS FIELD DAY at Washoe Lake State Park
If you have not yet had a chance to mark your calendars for next weekend, now is the time to do so! SNARS will be holding their ARRL Field Day activities next weekend beginning the morning of Friday June 26th at the group camping area in Washoe Lake State Park.
We have reserved the group area from Friday the 26th at 9:00 am through Sunday June 28th at 4:00 pm, and you are all invited to attend. We will be setting up antennas and prepping the area on Friday, and will have a campfire with stories and possibly singing or actual joke telling Friday night.
The contest will begin Saturday morning at 11:00 am and will run 24 hours non-stop. The primary object of the contest is to make as many contacts as we can in the 24 hour period, but even more important than a high score is meeting old friends and making new ones.
Dinner will be provided by SNARS on Saturday evening, and Eugene KB7JZO will be cooking breakfast Sunday morning.
If you are not a ham or it’s been a while since you have been on the air, we will have a ‘Get On The Air’ station manned by an authorized amateur radio operator who will act as the control operator while you make contacts and join in the fun.
Here are a few videos of the site taken with a UAV by Jim W6US:

We tentatively have made the following band assignments as we plan to be a 7A operation:
Rod KD7QXO and Sam KG7HBY will be operating on 20 and 15
The GOTA station control operator will be W2IB Matt Ham with Jay N7TOC as back-up
John N7ROJ will be operating a 6 meter station with HF capability when there are openings
Rob NB6C will be operating on 20M sideband
Dave KF7EGU will be operating his vertical on 40M
Ken KB2SFS will be operating CW on 40, 20 and 15
Peter KE7VSR will have his tall wire on 80M SSB
And Jim W6US will have SSB on 10M and 160M
We will have a total of 9 logging computers available for the stations, so each station is covered including the GOTA. Steve KS6A will have a 897D with portable antenna available for back-up.
We are also looking for some operators interested in working the digital modes.
Howie WB2AWQ will not be there but has offered up his son KB2SFS as a CW operator, and neither will Judy KE6GIW, but Judy will be contributing to the group for food.
Tony W7XM will be setting up auxiliary shelters and Eugene KB7JZO will be bringing some food on Sunday morning and Jon KF7KTC will help with the cooking.
Scotty K7SDS will be handling lighting, and I will bring some wood for the evening campfires.
Jim W6US will be bringing power supplies and extension cords. Tom KB9UFE, Dale KG7ROP, Dody KG6UIVX, George WA6TVD, Richard N7TGB, Jay N7TOC, and Matt W2IB will help with set-up, take-down, clean-up and good stories during the evening campfire.
Chuck WD6CHC and Gino KG7POU will be our talent when the media arrives.
SNARS dinner will be Saturday evening.
Stories, joke telling and possibly singing by the campfire all night.
