Tim Hunt Retires:
Las Vegas VE Has New Changes

Picture
In August after 15 years of service and more than 180 test sessions, the veteran leader of the Las Vegas Volunteer Examiner Team, Tim Hunt WA6TNW retired from the position.

Hunt, who must travel virtually all of the western United States in his job, saw the demands of that job increase dramatically this summer following the death of a co-worker.  Additionally, he had to deal with months of natural disasters at his home caused by the huge forest fire on Mt. Charleston.  The fire came within mere feet of taking his house.  This was followed by flash floods which threatened to sweep his home away.  These disasters continue to this day.  When reached by phone this morning, Tim reports that heavy snowfall on Mt. Charleston (he reports 42 inches on the ground at his QTH) has knocked out all power in his area.

Taking over the reigns as leader of the VE team, is Dan Connel K7QQQ who has been a member of the group for sometime.  As has been the case in the past, the Las Vegas VE Team is a stand alone group and is not affiliated with any local club or group.  The group is accredited by the ARRL-VEC.

Beginning in January amateur radio license examinations will no longer be held at the All-Saints Episcopal Church.  The new location for amateur radio exams in Las Vegas will be the Red Rock Search and Rescue Meeting Hall located at 330 Villa Monterey Drive in Las Vegas.

There will also be a new start time.  The sessions will now begin at 10:00 AM as opposed to the old time which was 12:30 PM.

A new webpage has been established for local testing information: http://www.k7qqq.org/LV_Amateur_Radio_Exams.html

Congratulations!  You passed your FCC license examination.  You are anxious to try out everything that Amateur Radio has to offer.  But where do you begin?  How do you actually get on the air?  What radio do you need?  What the heck is the IRLP, SSTV, RTTY, and Packet?

The Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society wants to help you to get the most out of the exciting world of Ham Radio.  SNARS is offering a free workshop especially tailored for the newcomer to ham radio.

Veteran ham radio operators will be on hand to introduce you to the many different aspects of amateur radio.  Mark Wednesday December 4th on your calendar.  The workshop begins at 6:00 PM at the Regional Emergency Operations Center, 5195 Spectrum Blvd. in Reno.  Register On-Line Here
